Study pressure forces teenage girl to commit suicide (Episode 65 on 9th December 2011)

Indore, India - August 17, 2011

A 15-year-old girl, Divya alias Komal, daughter of a businessman at Suvidha Nagar in Aerodrum area, hanged herself to death due to study pressure. Divya was a Class XII student in Sarafa School and an All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) aspirant. Preliminary police investigations suggest that she took the extreme step as she was unable to cope with the academic pressure. Her father and uncle, Govind Gupta, immediately took her to a hospital, but she was declared dead.

The incident highlights the extreme academic pressure that students in India face, especially those preparing for competitive entrance exams. The fear of failure and intense competition can take a toll on students' mental and emotional health. In recent years, there have been several reports of students committing suicide due to academic pressure, leading to calls for counseling services and mental health support for students.

The tragedy has shocked the local community and the school. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter further.
